Lonely Planet review for Prime 112
Sometimes, you need a steak: well aged, juicy, marbled with the right bit of fat, served in a spot where the walls sweat testosterone, the bar serves Manhattans and the hostesses are models. Chuck the above into Miami Beach’s oldest inn – the beautiful 1915 Browns Hotel – and there’s Prime 112. We just have to mention: during our research Enrique Iglesias, Anna Kournikova, Alonzo Mourning, LL Cool J, Mike Piazza and the King of Jordan all ate here. On the same night.

Our first night in Miami, October 2008, brought us to Prime 112. I had read about it online and checked out their website, so I had some expectation of what was in store. I dined with my husband. We had not made a reservation and the restaurant was almost full, however they did have a table on the outside patio, and coming from cold England, we made the most of the balmy Florida evening. Our waitress was quick to serve us and we were made to feel very welcome. I choose the lobster bisque spiked with dry sack sherry for starters and my husband, the french onion soup with brandy and aged gruyere. Well, my lobster bisque was so delicious that I can still taste it and have refused to have lobster bisque anywhere else since, as I do not want to spoil the taste I can recall! My husband also enjoyed his french onion soup, which looked and smelled divine. For our main course, we shared the 30 oz bone-in rib eye for two with sides of creamed corn and potatoes. The food was delicious, the only disappointment was that we could not finish it all - in fact we were almost full from the soup starter and the 30 oz rib eye we felt was enough for 4 people not 2! We were able to take our "left overs" away in a nice box, which seemed to be the trend as we watched people arrive and then leave the restaurant from our outside table. I guess this is fine if you live in Miami, but we had no way of heating the food the next day. This meal did cost us a lot of money - I think the bill was about $170 - but I will always remember the evening we had there - people watching (this is Miami!), good servvice, great food (if somewhat a little overpriced) and most of all my lobster bisque.
