Lonely Planet review
With 1930s-era architecture and design features from the hand of famous Euro architect Robert Swartburg, the Marseilles and its entertaining staff promise artsy luxury. Slightly worn rooms fall only a little short on this promise - but an afternoon of swaying in a palm-grove hammock keeps it all in perspective.
The central location posits visitors one block from Lincoln Rd boutiques and grants direct access to the famous beach. But don't blow by the hotel's own 90ft (27m) pool and its lushly landscaped sundeck and garden without pausing for a little hammock time - where ocean waves and ice tinkling in your glass serve as your own, private background music. The hotel's streetfront is fab for people-watching and offers an entertaining bartender, big-screen TV and pool table. Cozy, high-ceilinged rooms are newly decorated with rich tones and mahogany furnishings. They come with flat screens, internet access, refrigerator and somewhat ageing bathrooms. Suites are spacious, with full kitchenettes and balconies; some have ocean views. The fitness studio is small, but guests also receive a discount to a swanky facility nearby.
