    Located in a loft above Miss Yip, B15 manages to blend everything we like about going out - kinda edgy but not scary graffiti chic, cast-off action figures, consistently awesome DJs (Did they just mix 'Your Love' by the Outfield into 'Low' by Flo-Rida? Oh yes they did), free entry, a good mix of the hip and the hot and the drunk and the folks who just don't care but definitely wave their hands in the air - into one shot of nightlife fun.

    In addition to its impressive choirs, this church hosts various concert series, from jazz to classical, all of which draw regional crowds to its beautiful Mediterranean setting.

  3. Florida Grand Opera

    Founded in the 1940s, this highly respected opera company, which stages shows like Madame Butterfly, La Boheme, Tosca and many others, performs throughout the year at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts and Fort Lauderdale. Ticket offices are in Doral, but it's recommended you purchase online or on the phone.

  4. Hoy Como Ayer

    This hot spot, with authentic Cuban music and a small dance floor, is enhanced by Cuban memorabilia and cigar smoke. A house band is often complemented by other musicians who stop in to jam. The cafe also plays vintage Cuban music videos and film clips.

    While the downstairs caters to folks seeking a mellow, candlelit spot to hear live jazz, soul and funk bands, the upstairs lounge has DJs spinning soul, funk and hip-hop to a cool, multiculti crowd. By being cool and not trying to be, this place has remained popular while places all around it have come and gone.

  6. La Covacha

    Drive out about halfway to the Everglades (just kidding, but only just) and you'll find Covacha, the most hidden, most hip Latin scene in Miami. Actually, it's not hidden; all the young Latinos know about Covacha and love it well, and we do too. It's an excellent spot to see new bands, upcoming DJs (almost all local), an enormous crowd and pretty much no tourists. It throw one of the best parties in the city.

  7. Marlin Hotel

    This bar rocks the martini world with incredible beachside Bombay Sapphire martinis. The tropical, chic atmosphere, smooth service, occasional live music, karaoke and open mic nights are included at no extra charge. Also includes a nightclub where there's something different each Fri, Sat and Sun night, from DJs who spin deep house, R&B and hip-hop.

  8. Miami Chamber Symphony

    Its yearly series features world-renowned soloists at shows held at the University of Miami's Gusman Concert Hall, which is not to be confused with the downtown Gusman Center for the Performing Arts.

  9. New World Symphony

    This deservedly heralded NWS serves as a three- to four-year preparatory program for very talented musicians who've already graduated from prestigious music schools. Founded in 1987, the NWS is led by artistic director Michael Tilson Thomas, who still conducts performances for 12 weeks a year despite his national fame and fortune. There are an astonishing number of inspiring and original performances (many of which are free), held at the Lincoln Theatre.

  10. Tobacco Road

    A venerable local hangout hosting jazz, blues and rock bands, this place has been packing 'em in since 1912. There's a throwback roadhouse feel to the place and it's often the scene of impromptu jams by well-known rockers when they're in town. Film buffs may recognise it as the place where Kurt Russell has a drink in The Mean Season (1985).

    Transit exists in some perfect bar conceptual space, possessing the everyone-knows-your-name camaraderie of a dive, cool-daddio ambience of a good jazz club, the street cred of some of Miami's hottest live acts and a welcoming but ruggedly sexy venue. When you've had enough, run, don't stumble, to nearby La Moon and soak that beer up with a hot dog smothered in mayo and potato sticks.

  13. University Of Miami School Of Music

    Also held at the Gusman Concert Hall and Clark Recital Hall, these free concerts highlighting university students are a bargain. Seek out the long-running international Festival Miami, which features symphonies, chamber music and jazz, and runs from late September to late October.
