Bar entertainment in Miami

  1. A

    Mango’s Tropical Café

Cuba meets Coyote Ugly Saloon in this tourist hotspot, where a staff of gorgeous and/or ripped bodies (take your pick) dances, gyrates and puts some serious booty on the floor. Of course, you’re here for anthropological reasons: to study the nuances of Latin dance. Not to watch the bartender do that thing Shakira does with her butt.

    The Bar

All in a name, right? Probably the best watering hole in the Gables, The Bar is just what the title says (which is ironic in this neighborhood of extravagant embellishment). If you’re in the ’hood on Friday come here for happy hour (5pm to 8pm), when all the young Gables professionals take their ties off and basically let loose long into the night.

    Chesterfield Hotel

Perch on some prime Collins people-watching real estate and get crunk on the hip-hop-and-zebra stripe theme they've got going on here. You'd think this would be a pre-funk kinda place, but the setting's so fly, folks end up stationary, sipping on mad martinis 'til they stumble into their rooms.

  4. D

    Boy Bar

The North Beach boys (and just about everyone else) flock to this neighborhood cruise bar, where everyone plays pool, chills on the back porch and basically avoids indulging in too much South Beach–style madness. Which isn’t to say they don’t engage in a little bad behavior…

    Dewey’s Tavern

Dewey’s is a deco dive (really; the exterior is a little gem of the genre) and it’s as unpretentious as the best sordid watering holes get. Come here to get wasted and menace the crowds seeking serenity on quiet Alton Rd (just kidding – behave yourself!).

    Lost Weekend

The Weekend is a grimy, sweaty, slovenly dive, filled with pool tables, cheap domestics and – hell yeah – a Golden Tee arcade game. God bless it. Popular with local waiters, kitchen staff and bartenders, so you know it’s a good time.

    Ted’s Hideaway

Somewhere in the Florida panhandle is a bumpin’, fabulous gay club, which clearly switched places with Ted’s, a no-nonsense, pool table and sports-showin’ ‘lounge’ smack in the middle of Sofi’s elegant chicness.

    Mac's Club Deuce Bar

Cough, cough. Is that your lung on the floor? No matter; quaff a cheap beer and revel in the gloriously seedy vibe in this, the beach's oldest bar, which has been pouring drinks since 1926.

    Felt

Having 10 pool tables is one way to stand out from the crowd in these parts, and it seems to be working. Grab a drink and a cue and enjoy this spot’s come-one-come-all attitude.

    Tobacco Road

With a roadhouse feel and the oldest liquor license in Miami-Dade County, this rockin' joint has been around since 1912 and is often the scene of impromptu jams by well-known rockers.

    Room

It's dark, atmospheric and low-key. It's also small - thus the name - which is a nice contrast to some of Miami's more grandiose offerings.

    Automatic Slim's

Rockers and rocker wannabes - tattoos are optional - come together at this rockabilly-light bar for theme nights and general rowdiness.

The neon 'Tiffany' sign stands watch over this Todd Oldham-designed rooftop bar where you can keep an eye on most of Miami Beach.

Spring break is alive and well, you can find it here at the poolside, beachside, open-air bar where bikinis are always welcome.
