Lonely Planet review for Overton Park

Stately homes surround the rolling acres of Overton Park, where the Levitt Shell was the site of Elvis' first concert, in 1954. Today the newly reopened band shell hosts free concerts all summer.

    Memphis's Premiere Park

    arestotts recommends this,

Overton Park is host to the Memphis Zoo, the Brooks Museum of Art, the Overton Park Golf Course, the Levitt Shell (which hosts FREE family-friendly concert programs in the spring and fall), the Old Forest (an urban old-growth forest with walking and biking trails) and very importantly, the Greensward. The Greensward is a large, open greenspace where people can sun, play frisbee or hacky-sack, or do whatever park-lovers do. It has a small manmade lake and a playground for children. People often have unleashed dogs at the park, so be aware.
