Trouble in Paradise
Blog: Aerohaveno: A Travel Blog - 7 January 2010
No journey is perfect. Travellers go abroad knowing that, sometimes, flights will be delayed, baggage misplaced, hotel rooms disappointing and meals underwhelming.

Elvis’ 75th Birthday
Blog: Lonely Planet blog - 6 January 2010
The modern-day Presley Traveler will want to hit the road this year. Elvis’ 75th birthday is January 8 and events around the USA are planning on bigger cakes than usual. For starters, here are a few worthy clips to review along with the top Elvis (or ‘fake Elvis’) attractions around the country. YouTube videos worth seeing: Why [...]

Looking back at 2009: My first-time travels
Blog: First-time Traveler - 4 January 2010
Watching travelers in an airport coffee shop while waiting for my flight, I couldn’t help but wonder what 2010 has for me when it comes to traveling. Of course, 2009 was a good one. I have covered almost 20,000 miles, visited four countries, and enjoyed several beaches and landmarks. It was my first time to cross [...]

Blog: Snarky Tofu - 16 November 2009
Rohini Kapil and I came across this amazing Erhu (Chinese 2-string violin) player in Los Angeles Chinatown. His style is absolutely wild, manic almost, and the music he plays a far cry from the more sedate classical Chinese erhu heard in most concert halls. During a break in the music (unrecorded,) we chatted briefly and he told me that he was from Suzhou, a few hours out of Shanghai, and he described his style as "folk music". At one point he seemed to be in a trance, and at others he stopped playing long enough to thank loudly and cheerfully anyone putting money into his case.

Around Los Angeles
Blog: The Road Chose Me - 50,000kms of ebb and flow - 8 November 2009
Hanging out with Jen, Greg & Christopher is as much fun as always. We kick around the area doing a bunch of random stuff: I’ve been to LA a ton of times but have somehow not been into Hollywood, so it’s an easy choice on a nice sunny morning. We walk a little way down [...]

Lady in LA
Blog: A Lady in London - 7 November 2009
I have always disliked LA. I can’t help it. Growing up in Northern California, I was taught to think less of my state’s lower half. Teachers made fun of LA in school. Parents warned us against the dual evils of smog and plastic surgery. Aside from Disneyland, there was no good reason to visit the greater Los Angeles area.

Best 10 Free or Cheap Things to Do with Kids in Los Angeles
Blog: The Q Family Adventures Travel Blog - 12 October 2009
What to do with kids if you only have 48 hours to visit Los Angeles? As we are planning our Southern California trip, I have planned out what to do in San Diego down to the hours.. Ok. I’m a bit obsessive when it comes to travel planning. I know that. Now that San Diego [...]Thanks for reading my feed. Please stop by to say hi or leave a comment!

Tweeting in the USA
Blog: Aerohaveno: A Travel Blog - 1 October 2009
Glancing over the output of my Twitter feed for the past few weeks, I realised that, if I reversed the order of tweets, I’d have a neat microblog of my entire S

SoCal Restaurant Roundup
Blog: An American in London - 1 September 2009
I’m back in London after spending five days in La Jolla, California, which included quick trips to LA and the ‘burbs of Orange County. I couldn’t get enough of the sunshine and wide, sandy beaches of SoCal, but sadly, my year-old Canon Elph drowned in seawater during a kayak outing off the coast of [...]

Tacos Por Favor, Santa Monica, CA
Blog: An American in London - 28 August 2009
Jon and I are in SoCal right now, and although I’m an East Coast girl, I must confess I’m enjoying the sea and sun around these parts. And I’ve definitely been loving all the great Cal-Mex food. Our fave Mexican fix so far has been at the divey Tacos Por Favor, which is just a dozen [...]

Esquivel: Putting the Kick-Ass in Artisanal Shoes
Blog: Paris By Appointmenty Only - 26 August 2009
Custom. Handmade. Shoes. Say those three words aloud and your mind hops a plane to the fashion capitals of Europe where couture cobbling has been celebrated for centuries. But, don’t buy your brain's tickets just so fast... The special new stomping ground for original, handcrafted shoes is neither in Paris, London or Milan, but in a back alley, by appointment shop in, (pregnant pause), none other than Los Angeles!

First-time in LA
Blog: First-time Traveler - 9 July 2009
“LA is great big freeway…” so the song goes. And big freeways, indeed, fill the Los Angeles landscape. Next to rows of palm trees, of course. My good friend Cathy was kind enough to host me all throughout my LA trip right after the conference which I attended in San Francisco and take me to famous [...]

America’s got talent
Blog: Send The Bugger Back - 6 May 2009
Last night I beat some chump from London (though he was really from Surrey) 3 times at horse. Funny lad, insists on rarely wearing shoes and has a ring through his nose. He also has a sloan type accent and I get the feeling he is just playing at slumming it (likely on Mummy and [...]

Chuck Norris does not sleep, he waits
Blog: Send The Bugger Back - 5 May 2009
Everything is great about this hostel apart from the shower, there are basically 3 options: Arctic cold, lava hot and pathetic trickle (where the pressure is lower than Harold Shipman’s morals). I’ve been using pathetic trickle the past couple of days but this morning this option had ceased to be. So it was the hot [...]

Universal Soldier
Blog: Send The Bugger Back - 5 May 2009
Today has been pretty darn good, I’m bloomin’ knackered from all the marching around. I was impressed with Universal Studios, the Terminator and Mummy Returns rides being my favourites. A special mention for The Simpsons one too. We got countless daft photos with famous characters including one of me, Shaggy and Scooby Doo holding Simon [...]

Pacific Surfliner
Blog: Send The Bugger Back - 3 May 2009
Right now I’m following the Pacific Ocean on the train and watching the surfers while enjoying the Mexican accents of my fellow passengers. San Diego seemed an okay city, but if I’m honest I didn’t find it that special. Ian Brown said “Manchester has everything but a beach” and while I certainly wouldn’t go as [...]
