High in the hills above Sunset Blvd, Lion Feuchtwanger’s old home, complete with a 1927 pipe organ (yes, there is an organ room), thick timber-beamed ceilings and miraculous sea views, was once a gathering place for European artists and intellectuals in exile.

Folks like Bertholt Brecht, Charles Chaplin and Thomas Mann were part of Feuchtwagner’s loose network and buzz-worthy salons. It stands to reason then that it is now a German-American art and cultural center hosting visiting artists, musicians, filmmakers and writers in residence. It hosts occasional concerts, screenings and events here too. Tours are free but must be arranged in advance.
