Lonely Planet review for Pit 91
Excavations at the La Brea Tar Pits continue every summer when you can watch paleontologists at work in Pit 91 . At other times, they're fussing over bones in the glass-encased laboratory inside the Page Museum itself, cleaning, identifying, cataloging and storing their discoveries.

Neat
ridermike recommends this,
It's a tar pit in downtown LA. You can smell the tar, it's real. There's a nice museum which I didn't bother paying $5 to go to (nice on the outside, it was closed when I got there, and I don't plan on going back just for it). You can park north of the Tar Pits on the first east-west street there. Also it's close to a shopping complex I didn't even know existed (The Grove), within walking distance. May as well hit up both while you're there.
