Lonely Planet review for The Grove
This outdoor mall is one of LA’s most popular shopping destinations. Its recipe for success? Fill a faux Italian palazzo with 40 name-brand stores and restaurants, toss in a fountain, the Pacific Theatres and a sprinkling of celebrities, then top it off with a trolley rolling back and forth down the middle. PT Barnum would be proud. Check out the roof of the parking garage for stellar city views. Highlights include little-girl fave American Girl Place and grown-up-gal boutique Theodore. Parking free for the first hour; $3 for two to three hours.

Nice place to shop/tour
ridermike recommends this,
This is one of LA's fine outdoor malls and it's quite nice. It has a Farmer's Market with some highly-packed close-knit shops, with plenty to eat and see, and a very pretty central park with a fountain and pond which makes it very scenic. Be sure to go to the Barnes and Noble bookstore's 3rd storey balcony to get a nice view from way up high. Also, if you're going to park in the parking structure there, park on the uppermost level and take photos. The sign says "no loitering and no photography", but there's nobody there to bother you if you want to snap a few quick pics of downtown LA or the Griffith J. Griffith Observatory at Griffith J. Griffith park, which is visible from that location to the NE.
