Lonely Planet review for Sanamluang Café
If the thought of dining in a tiny, rundown strip mall in Hollywood’s grittier east side sounds unappealing, read no further. But if you savor the thrill of a good culinary adventure, grab your keys for a trip to Thai Town for some of the best noodles around. The no-frills, pictures-of-the-food decor may be uninspiring, but all is forgiven once that huge, simmering bowl of General’s Noodles – stuffed to the rim with shrimp, duck and barbecued pork – arrives at your table. Pad thai is available for beginners. Cash only and open late.

Don't Judge the Restaurant from the Outside
lalimarie recommends this,
Seeing Sanamluang from the outside one would think twice about ordering anything. If you're brave enough though and decide to order anything, you'll be rewarded. It will be surprising to find a restaurant that let me put it this way, shabby and run down in image obsessed Los Angeles. It is by far the best Thai restaurant in the Los Angeles area in my opinion and I've been to a number of them. Everything tastes good from the Pad Thai to the Fried Rice to the Stuffed Shrimp and the Satay. I've only been to the restaurant twice but I've eaten their food courtesy of take-outs on a number of occasions. I have to admit that during the first time I saw the restaurant I was hesitant to get in but I thought we barely could get a table and there are hordes more waiting for a table, who am I to judge based on the ambiance, it's all about the food anyway and whether one is satisfied afterward. And I am a very satisfied customer who'll keep coming back if ever I am in the Los Angeles area.
