Lonely Planet review for Roscoe’s House of Chicken & Waffles

It’s not spiffy, the lighting’s not so great, and the decor’s best described as well worn and wooden. But for LA’s best Southern soul food, look no further than this 30-year-old landmark where the namesake dish is can’t-miss. The combo sounds strange but the reality – crispy, juicy fried chicken with a side of soft, syrupy waffles – is simply delish. There’s salad on the menu, but why?

    It's an experience.

The food is definitely good, but it's not exactly a daily diet. It is a good treat to have and it is a lot of fun. Not the best choice if your health conscious, but very good if you want to have a good meal.

This iconic Los Angeles soul food restraunt serves up heaping portions of delicious southern classics like fried chicken smothered in onion gravy served with big buttery waffles. A must try for food lovers in LA

    Always delicious!

    ssssistagirl recommends this,

This place is not necessarily known for its ambience or luxury but if you are looking for some soul satisfying food - this is the place. They have a plethora of soul food choices but I keep it simple. A #13 - The Carol C. special - does me right! It's one waffle and a chicken breast. Just enough food and so good. I don't know what their special recipe is for the waffles but they just melt in your mouth. I also always order a Sunrise (half oj/half lemonade) to drink. Sweet and refreshing! And, if you want to indulge a little further, you can't go wrong with the fresh cut french fries.

When I first heard of Roscoes's Chicken and Waffles years ago, I thought "Ewww....weird combination." Then I tried it. It might sound weird but it surely doesn't taste that way. A must eat while in Los Angeles!!!

FYI....lines can get long and the wait can be killer so don't wait until you are famished to go there. However, once you order the food it comes out pretty fast.
