Lonely Planet review for Abbot’s Pizza

Surfers have savored Abbot’s Pizza gourmet slices for years but word of the crisp-crusted specialties – tequila-lime chicken, wild mushroom – has spread beyond the flip-flop crowd that fills the handful of tables at this elevator-sized hot v\spot. Mid-afternoon, ask for a fresh-from-the-oven slice – heat lamps spoil the fun.

    Tasty treats

    rbactul recommends this,

When we're in the area, we like to eat here. They're known for the delicious pizzas they make, but there are many tasty submarine sandwiches, dinners, salads and sides on the menu too.

We walked in the door on a Monday night. It was surprising that the place was abuzz with customers on a weeknight. The restaurant has eight to twelve booths where you can sit down and eat, and a counter for takeout orders. We did manage to find a seat among the crowd.

As I said, we've dined at Abbot's Pizza before. I love their Chicken Salad. It's huge, though, and I can't finish it in one sitting. I like the wide variety of salad dressings available at Abbot's Pizza.

We decided to share a Chicken Salad. I also ordered an 8 inch Beef and Cheddar Sub to try. It took a while for us to get our orders since the place was so busy. But, when the food arrived, it was hot and appealing to the eye.

My sub wasn't stacked very high, but it consisted of sliced roast beef, mushrooms, onions and cheddar cheese on a white bun. The sub was thinly sliced steak, green peppers, mushrooms, onions, cheese and Ranch dressing.

The sandwich tasted good, but it was rather plain since it had no sauce on it. I then remembered it was supposed to be served with sauce, but they forgot to bring it. I didn't want to be a bother since they were busy, so I just ate my sub plain.

The Grilled Chicken Salad was just as delicious as ever. Since we had ordered sandwiches too, something we wouldn't normally do, we ate half the salad between us, and I took the rest home.
