Lonely Planet review for Europane
With its concrete floors, small wooden tables and jumbled baskets of unmarked pastries, Europane doesn’t exactly ooze warmth. But buttery bearclaws, fluffy croissants and smooth cups of coffee make up for any lack of coffeehouse coziness. Arrive early for croissants; they sell out.

great little bakery you might pass by
michfish recommends this,
Europane is in a strange complex of restaurants and a cigar shop on the corner of Colorado and Mentor and is within walking distance of Pasadena City College and the California Institute of Technology. You just might miss it since it's small and lumped with the other shops (a upper-level parking lot in the back -- ingenious use of space). I've been told by one of my professors that the owner/baker was trained in France, but I haven't checked up on that. The breads and baked goods are wonderful. I've tried a turkey sandwich (just a bit dry) and a good-sized scone, which were both excellent. On any sunny day (of which there are many in Pasadena), Europane is a great place to sit in and look out the large windows onto Colorado, a major urban thoroughfare of the city. The sandwiches may be a little bit more expensive than the average in that area, but the fare is affordable for a nice little lunch.
