Lonely Planet review for Bob’s Big Boy

The red-checkered, pompadoured kid still woos hamburger-craving hordes at America’s oldest remaining Big Boy’s – his fiberglass form a refreshing reminder that some people in LA still eat. Inside, grab a burnt-orange booth for a double-decker combo, or, on weekend nights, enjoy carhop service in back.

    Nothing that special

    lyfsbtronthbeach does not recommend this,

I've lived in LA for 8 years now.. so this feels more like home than home (Hawaii), and there are so many amazing restaurants in this city... but Bob's? It's good comfort food, but I can't believe it's even in the top 50? In fact they have one in Hawaii. Nothing really that LA-esque about it.. and the food is just kind of good diner food. Nothing against it, but I wouldnt take my out of town friends here?

    Bob's Big Boy

    klm1234 recommends this,

This place is a historic landmark, built in 1949 it has the oldest standing Big Boy in America. It's a classic American meal---Burgers, Fries (with seasoning salt), breakfast all day and of course all different kinds of shakes. If that is what you're looking for then sit right down and let the trained (no sarcasm intended) serve you. The meals are priced accurately for a cheap sit down restaurant that can still boast quality food, they have a free parking lot, and they do fundraisers. Most importantly they are open 24 hours, seven days a week. For me this was a great experience. I love going here with my family and have since I was a little girl. For me it gets two thumbs up!

    Fantastic Service like no other

    heatherykins recommends this,

My friend and I came across Bob's Big Boy when we were very tired after a long day at the Getty Centre. We just wanted any food and fast. We thought Bob's Big Boy would be like McDonalds so we went in there for a bite to eat.

The service we received was incredible. We didn't order much but the waitress that served us ensured that everything was perfect for us, she could see we were tired so she made food suggestions for us, she encouraged us to try different sauces on our burgers and anything that we didn't like she said we wouldn't have to pay for.

The food was of a good size and really good quality. Would Definately recommend it for those that want an alternative from the usual fast food joints.
