Best Western PLUS Hollywood Hills
Lonely Planet review
Colorful retro touches, plenty of elbow room, a sparkling tiled pool and wi-fi internet access put this always-busy chain motel a few comfortable steps above the budget-minded norm. For more space and quiet, get a room in the back.
Reactions to this property are often love it or hate it. On the love-it side, the 86 rooms are large, bathrooms modern, and the location is within walking distance of the party precincts of Hollywood Blvd. Self-caterers will welcome the in-room refrigerator and microwave, too. The hate-its cite noise drifting up from the street, nearby 101 Freeway and the poolside area, the occasional housekeeping glitch and indifferent treatment by staff. There's plenty of comfort food downstairs at the 101 Coffee Shop, a bustling spot that's open late (although don't expect snappy service). Unlike many Hollywood-area hotels, parking here is free, as are limited local phone calls (another rarity), and small pets are allowed for a surcharge. Children aged 17 and under can stay free in rooms with a paying adult, making it even more of a bargain.
