Lonely Planet review for In-N-Out Burger

At California’s famous In-N-Out, where the beef patties are never frozen and the potatoes are hand-diced daily, there’s a secret menu. Ask for your burger ‘animal style’ (with mustard, an onion-grilled bun and extra-special sauce).

A rare recommendation for fast food.

    themagicpomegranate recommends this,

I usually (almost never) eat fast food but made an exception when I found this place in Las Vegas. The ingredients are fresh, and you can taste it. I got a cheeseburger "protein style" with no bun wrapped in lettuce. It was awesome.

Good for: getting away from crowds, fast food, late night eats

Not good for: health food nuts, people who are on a diet

In and Out - Fast Food's Finest

    aussiestevo recommends this,

Is it too extreme to fly from Sydney to La for a Cheese burger? Not if it is from In and Out

The list of things this reviewer would do for a tasty double double could fill a 347 page book (only slight exaggeration).

In burger filled in west coast USA burgers are a dime a dozen but this fast food joint stands out from the pack. This chain serves all their burgers fresh, with hand pick lettuces, onions and toasted buns have this with the fries, which are hand cut and prepared in 100 percent vegetable oil and you get the taste you have been longing for since child birth. Think of it as a more refined version of the local tuck shop burgers you had as a kid. The menu is simple Fries, shakes and burgers, and they do them all so well.

The best thing about this southern west coast institution is that they have resisted the urge to expand beyond Nevada and California, making this a special treat for out of state American visitors also.

Check out the not so secret menu that LA and Vegas locals talk about as if they are in some kind of secret burger society. Try the Animal style fries which consist of their hand cut fries, special sauce, melted cheers and grilled onions. It may sound like a heart attack waiting to happen but compared to most fast food offerings this is an less death inducing alternative ( Carls Jnr anyone?), for the carb conscience try the protein style which is essentially their delicious meat patties wrapped lettuce instead of the bun, if you are extra hungry try a 3 x 3 or a 4 x4 or a 12 x 12 the number denotes the number of patties you get in your burger.

Now if only we could get a side by side comparison of this gem and the much hyped Ferg burger in Queenstown for the ultimate burger face off.

    IN-N-OUT attracts the crowd

    superpolar2005 recommends this,

Great Burgers and fabulous fries. The legendary Fast-Food chain achieves the highest peak - again. The burgers are tasty with fresh lettuce and tomatoes, meat is super-tasty. The french fries are to die for (cut fresh by hand daily). Service is fast and friendly. If you never ate at In-N-Out, you've missed a piece of America.
