    Blue-collar Brendan's in the Orleans casino stages rip-roarin' Zydeco Wednesday nights and Sunday-evening acoustic Celtic folk singalongs.     You just gotta love a punk bar where the tangy, blood-red house drink is named 'Ass Juice'. There's also a behaviour code: 'You puke, you clean'. There's never a cover charge, and the low-roller drinks are cash only. Monday is the Bargain DJ Collective night, with lunatic-fringe bands other nights. Play pool, pinball, Asteroids or the legendary jukebox.

    It's no contest: Vegas' most stellar DJs spin at this off-Strip jewel box. Deep house, trance and techno play in the main multistoried dance hall, while the sidecar lounge heaves with hip-hop, retro '80s and mash-ups. Shortish lines outside the door ease you in to see the honeys lickety-split.

    Draped with velvet, boxy Light encourages socializing in plush surrounds while professional hosts push top-shelf bottle service. Mainstream dance sounds predominate. If you want to chill, book a VIP booth. Since it's a celeb hangout(think Leo and his entourage), reservations are recommended.

    A helluva drive from the Strip, this locals-only hangout near Hoover Dam is paradise for indie-music lovers. Some of Sin City's best rock and jazz bands play underground (literally) shows here. Call first to check schedules.

    The throbbing beats at this faux-Asian hideaway may peak earlier than at other places, but there's rarely a long line. At the moment, Latin rules Wednesday with hip-hop straight through the weekend, including hyphy on Sunday night. Bites from downstairs Chinois are served. Strict dress code.

    Sin City's newest gay nightclub is also its sexiest, featuring fireplace patios, aquariums and waterfalls, plus the luxurious 8½ ultra lounge. A rainbow variety of dance club events includes DJ-driven Milk Mondays (the slogan: 'HOMO-genizing Las Vegas'), hip-hop Bling Tuesdays and ladies-only Orchid Wednesdays.     When you're on your last dime, drive to this dive. A few doors down from a Harley repair shop, this unpretentious club is the only one in town featuring live jazz and blues nightly. It's smoky, casual and has a nautical theme, video poker and pool tables. It draws a tough local crowd. To get here, enter off Polaris Ave.

    Concerts at this intimate venue feel like private shows, even when David Bowie or the Killers are in town. It's a beacon for rock 'n' roll superstars. Most shows are standing-room only, with reservable VIP balcony seats upstairs.
