Lonely Planet review for Top of Waikiki

Once a hallmark of progress, the revolving restaurant was first introduced at a world's fair in the 1960s but it has since become a relic of simpler times. Rotating at about one revolution per hour, this tower-top restaurant absorbs a 360-degree view from mountain to sea and back again. There's food involved too (sunset dinner around US$14), but the novelty is the slow-motion sit-and-spin.

    Joke

Think twice before you make plans here. Myself and my new husband made reservations here for our wedding 6 months in advance. On our wedding night, while in the limo, on the way to the resteraunt with all our family members, they called us to tell us that our reservation had been cancelled due to a power hit to their building. The entire rest of the block was fine, but only their building had a power issue. I know this because we ate at Atlantis next door (Great place btw). We had asked the hostess to recomend a new destination and they couldn't even do that. When my husband called the manager the next day, he informed that they had taken the power hit at 5 pm when they opened, a good 2 hours before they called to cancel our reservation. The manager was also very unapoligetic and they never even offered any type of feel good fix. I would never recomend this place to anyone, if they can't keep their power on they are not worthy to be in business. I'll admit I am a little jaded by the experience, but come on, it was my wedding day and I had two 81+ year old grandmas with us, not great for venue changes.

    Top experience

    hayshaker recommends this,

It took several visits to Waikiki until we decided to give 'Top of Waikiki' a go - we expected it to be a bit too cheesy or kitsch - but it was a great experience. Our sitting was 6.30pm in February, which was perfect because we got to see Waikiki in daylight, sunset and the night lights were on before we finished dining. The food was good and not overpriced and the staff were friendly, but of course it's the the novelty of the location that made it more enjoyable than we anticipated. I think it's definitely worth a visit - you get to try to spot your hotel or see where you walked that day and while it probably won't be the most memorable food, it will still be a fun dining experience to remember.
