Lonely Planet review for Sam Choy's Breakfast, Lunch & Crab

Its menu offers huge portions of local specialties, such as fried noodles or loco moco (three hamburger patties and more, buried in gravy) for breakfast, along with mainland staples such as bacon and eggs, and fresh crab. The food is great, a high-quality change from overpriced hotel fare. The on-site Big Aloha Brewery pours some of the best microbrews in town.

    Escape Waikiki

    marycoleman recommends this,

Tired of Waikiki glitz, glamour and grunge? Sam's warehouse turned casual restuarant and brew pub makes a pleasant change. East of downtown on Nimitz (good stop to or from the airport?) A real sneak could take the free Hilo Hattie's bus and walk a half block.

We tried a couple signature dishes: The crab cakes were perfect--LOTS of crab and not much filler. The "Bento" plate had beef, chicken, fish, spam, egg with rice and macaroni salad (Hawaian staples) all for $12.95. That would fill up a big brudda.

We are micro brew fans so ordered the very tasty Ehu Ale and the Porter. The Aloha Brewery has happy hour every day 3-6 with 30% off appetizers (crab cakes?!)

Sam's place has a cheerful ambience with families, groups, tourists and business lunchers all having a good time. We will return to sample more.
