Lonely Planet review for Down to Earth Natural Foods

Honolulu's largest natural-foods supermarket has a small sandwich and salad café with lots of vegetarian options. The grocery section has a decent selection of local and organic produce including Hawaii's tasty papaya and apple bananas.

    Great for Healthy Take-Out

    onerabbit recommends this,

Down to Earth is a health food grocery store with a salad bar, hot food bar and deli-style counter filled with yummy, healthy and organic foods. Down to Earth manages to pack a lot of flavor into a hearty mock chicken sandwich as well as "better for you" snacks such as its "bird bar", a deliciously chewy nut and grain bar. Providing lots of choices for vegetarians and vegans Down to Earth's food is so good it makes you forget that it is "healthy food". Slightly more expensive that its fast food counterparts (expect to pay approximately $7-10 for your lunch), the quality and quantity of your meal will be worth it. Another downside is that there is a very small eating area, especially at the University location. However, Down to Earth is best as a take away. Fill your basket with wraps, salad, lasagne, and chocolate cake, as well as fresh organic apples, pears, and oranges from the grocery section. Then go to the beach with your fresh and healthy bounty!
