When nothing other than breakfast will curb your cravings, Eggs and Things is the place to go. After being seated, menus mounted on wood are passed around the tables. (Full Japanese menus are available on the back sides of each menu). The menu begins, naturally, with 'eggs' any style are served with your breakfast meat of choice and a side of pancakes, rice, or potatoes, starting at $8.50. Any of their flavored pancakes, such as chocolate chip (my personal favorite) can be substituted for the traditional buttermilk at an additional cost. Rounding out the 'eggs' are their three egg omelets, also served with your choice of rice, potatoes, or pancakes.
Now onto the 'things'. Pineapple whip pancakes offer up something with a local flair, for $9.95. Blueberry and banana pancakes are also available for those seeking more traditional style pancakes, while those with a more exotic palette will appreciate the variety of syrups offered at each table. Coconut, boysenberry, and maple syrup are nice complements to a stack of their warm, soft, buttermilk pancakes, which are "so light [they] have to weigh them down with fresh whipped butter and powdered sugar to keep them from floating", as per their menu.
Crepe suzettes with various fruit fillings and fresh waffles are also available, ranging from $6.75-$10.25, and traditional Hawaiian sides, such as vienna sausage and spam are available a la carte.
The ambiance is very homey, despite its buzzing clientele, who are generally a mix of Japanese tourists, night owls, and weary travelers, making this a great spot to just sit and people watch. The service tends to be a bit slow, but the food is always well worth the wait. Just grab a seat at the high top counter and watch the servers navigate through the crowds of people in their full body, ruffled aprons. Overall, a great late night spot, especially when only a short stack will do.
Eggs 'n Things is open daily, from 11pm until 2pm.
