The Sheraton's lobby resembles an airport at rush hour. People are constantly coming and going and if you stop, the crowd might just whisk you away. Thus it lacks the people-watching charm of other major hotels. But many rooms offer ocean views and if that's a priority, you could do worse.
While the massive 1695-room Sheraton Waikiki sits right on the beach, it seems oddly disjointed from the sand and surf; you'll probably prefer hanging out at nearby hotels' livelier beachfront venues. Also, the beach fronting the property is narrow, and you must walk toward the iconic hotels on either side to find better spots. The hotel's street entrance is rather unpleasant, dominated by a large parking lot that's constantly busy since it's the tour-bus hub for all major companies. That said, you'll probably enjoy a room with a view here, as the Sheraton is a sweeping behemoth: over two-thirds of all rooms face the Pacific. Rooms are comfortable and you'll probably have no complaints about the cleanliness or ubiquitous tropical design. The hotel is extremely popular with Japanese tour groups; in the lobby, you'll find a whole wing of major Japanese travel agencies.
