Lonely Planet review
Perched on the rim of Kilauea Caldera, Volcano House has a venerable history, but its accommodations are simply average, well-kept hotel rooms with louvered wooden blinds and pink spreads. Splash out for a deluxe view room, though, and there's no disappointment - these take in the whole steaming thing (even if the view disappears after dark). Avoid the cheapest Ohia Wing rooms; they're below ground and poorly ventilated. Reserve far in advance.
