Puako Petroglyph Preserve information
With more than 3000 petroglyphs, this preserve is among the largest collections of ancient lava carvings in Hawaii. The simple pictures might not make sense to you, but viewed altogether, they are fascinating and worth a visit.
The 1300yd walk from Holoholokai Beach Park to the preserve adds to the experience: take the well-marked trail at the mauka side of the park. The walk is easy, but wear sturdy footwear and expect blazing sun (the path is only partly shaded).
