Getting there & around
All commercial flights land at Lihuʻe Airport (LIH; 808-246-1448; www.hawaii.gov/dot/airports/kauai/lih). The major car-rental companies maintain booths there, and taxis line up outside the arrival area. Kauaʻi has a limited public bus service (808-241-6410; Mon-Sat), which serves most towns but doesn’t go to tourist destinations like Kilauea Point and Kokeʻe State Park. Fares are $1.50.
The inter-island Hawaii Superferry (www.hawaiisuperferry.com) is no longer operating. Following concerns about the threat it posed to humpback whales, a Supreme Court ruling has suspended its operations until a thorough Environmental Impact Statement can be completed.
