    St Louis native Chuck Berry still rocks the small basement bar here at least once a month. The around US$25 tickets sell out very quickly. The venue hosts smaller-tier rock, reggae, blues and hip-hop bands on the other nights.

    Shanti, meaning 'peace' in Sanskrit, is the Bohemian heart of Soulard. It hosts a popular Tuesday open mike and on most other nights has folk-bluegrass-rock acts playing til late.
