Getting there & around
KC International Airport (816-243-5237; www.flykci.com) is 16 miles northwest of downtown. A taxi to downtown/Plaza costs about $40/45; callYellow Cab (888-471-6050). Or take the cheaper KCI Shuttle (800-243-5000; downtown/Plaza $17/18).
Greyhound (816-221-2835; 1101 Troost St) sends buses daily to St Louis ($43, 4½ hours), Chicago ($71, 10¼ to 12¾ hours) and Denver ($91, 11¼ hours) while Jefferson Lines heads to Omaha ($32, 3¼ to 4¼ hours) and Minneapolis ($85, 9½ to 10 hours). Both use the city’s inconveniently located main bus station. Megabus (877-462-6342; 10th & Main Sts) goes to St Louis and Chicago right from downtown for as low as $8.
Amtrak (816-421-3622), in lovely Union Station, has daily service to St Louis ($25, six hours), Chicago ($40, 7½ hours) and Albuquerque ($200, 18¼ hours).
Local transport is with Metro buses (816-221-0660; www.kcata.org; adult fare $1.25). A 1-/3-day unlimited ride-pass costs $3/8. The convenient MAX line runs regularly between River Market and Country Club Plaza.
