Lonely Planet review

The first-class, recently expanded Walker Art Center has a strong permanent collection of 20th-century art and photography, including big-name US painters and great US pop art.

In 1879, lumber mogul Thomas Walker opened the first private art gallery in Minneapolis. In the 1920s, the museum was relocated to the current site just southwest of downtown Minneapolis and today the Walker Art Center is known worldwide.
