Animals of the Everglades
Blog: Vagabond3 - 19 January 2012
I’m a little embarrassed to admit that, as a Florida resident, I’ve never been to the Everglades. I’ve traveled all around the state of Florida, especially when I was in undergrad, but I never made my way down to South Florida to experience this vast and incredible ecosystem- over 200 million acres. This area is home to hundreds of different plants and animals, including some of Florida and the United States...

Blog: Ciao Bambino! - 5 January 2012
I’m like most parents in the sense that it’s rare I get good stretches of quality one-on-one time with my girls. Could I do a better job of making it happen? Absolutely, but it seems as though something always gets in the way. When I was invited to take my teen on the Chevrolet Volt Sunshine Road Trip, I cleared the calendar, no excuses.

Blog: Ciao Bambino! - 19 December 2011
You can spend months planning a family vacation only to find when you actually hit the road that it’s the unexpected stuff that steals the show. Case in point, critters. Animal meetings on family adventures are often surprises that tend to lead to success. I did more traveling than I’ll admit to before it clicked that Kids & Kritters are a great traveling combination.

#SunsetSunday: The Secret Beach
Blog: Vagabond3 - 6 November 2011
Vilano Beach, located two miles north of St. Augustine Florida, is a secret gem, that is usually bypassed by visitors. But, with far fewer people visiting this beach and river area, I’d suggest you make it your base when visiting St. Augustine. The river, only blocks from the beach, is home to endangered manatees, fish, right whales and alligators, putting you at one with nature. Plus, you’ll get to experience...

Not Quite Swimming With Dolphins
Blog: Inside the Travel Lab - 25 July 2011
As a child, I always wanted to swim with dolphins. And if I’m honest, as an adult as well. Swimming with dolphins has become a cliché in the repertoire of half-formed dreams, wishes and wonderings of those who realise that their time on this earth is limited. Yet...Not Quite Swimming With Dolphins first appeared on Inside the Travel Lab. Head over there for more juicy fresh travel goodness. Or, you know, something you might like to read...

Sunsets over Guana River, Florida
Blog: Vagabond3 - 24 July 2011
Driving to St. Augustine from Jacksonville Beach one night, I pulled off A1A into an area called Guana River. The sun had just set creating gold illuminated rays through the darken blue sky. As we watched the sky get darker, the colors starting fading into soft pinks and purples and it cast a beautiful reflection on the water. It was such a fantastic cap to my wonderful trip to St....

Ohana means Family
Blog: Vagabond3 - 13 July 2011
In Florida, summer isn’t just June through August. It’s more like March through October, and being close to the ocean means beach walks hunting for shells and shark teeth, lots of sunscreen, and daily surf sessions. Having grown up in Jacksonville Beach, this was my life, surrounded by family and friends that felt like family, and we always gathered at our local surf break. I didn’t realize it then, but...

Up, Up and Away: Behind the Scenes of a Space Shuttle Launch
Blog: Trans-Americas Journey - 7 July 2011
It’s over. If the weather holds, the space shuttle Atlantis (which made its first trip into space in 1989) will launch into orbit tomorrow (Friday July 8, 2011) from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, marking the final space shuttle mission–and the end of the Space Shuttle Program. No replacement space program has been fully developed yet, so Atlantis is carrying a year’s worth of parts and supplies up to the space station which, from here on out, will be served by the Russian space program until NASA develops a new way to reach the scientists working there.

The Devil in Disney’s Details

As I stand on the edge of the Walt Disney World Dock, waiting for the Disney Ferry that will transport me to Disney’s Magic Kingdom, I am struck by the horrible realisation that you can’t unknow things.
