Lonely Planet review
Once an iffy destination because of crime, the renaissance of Ybor City (pronounced ee-bore) almost matches that of Miami Beach. For power-drinkers and 20-somethings, the area is a must for its energy and drink-till-you-drop potential; there are over 60 bars and clubs within the small neighborhood.
Indeed, you might want to visit a few times: it's G-rated during the day with conventioneers having business lunches, PG-rated with middle-aged folks at dinnertime and R-rated late at night. If you don't fall into any of the above categories, head here to appreciate the area's history and its sheer success at recreating itself. You'll find palm-lined and brick-paved streets, wrought iron balconies à la New Orleans' Bourbon St and handsome former cigar factories and social clubs.
The main drag of Ybor City, 7th Ave (La Septima), is closed to cars on Friday and Saturday from about to . The area is roughly bordered by 23rd St at the east, 13th St at the west, Palm Ave (between 10th and 11th Aves) at the north and the railroad tracks along 6th Ave at the south. 14th St is also called Avenida República de Cuba. The safest bet for parking (for ease and safety) is the garage on 7th Ave E at 16th St.
