  1. A

    Shorty’s BBQ

If you’re gonna make a mess of yourself, best do it by dribbling some smoky barbecue sauce on the long wooden picnic tables at this South Dade institution. It’s not the best barbecue in the world, but for Texas-style brisket in South Florida, it’s as good as life gets.

  2. B

    Charlie’s Bar-b-q

Get your ribs and chicken fix handled at Charlie’s. It’s bare bones on the inside, but you can smell that sweet, smoky barbecue from across the parking lot.

  3. Yellow Dog Eats

Housed in what was once a general store, with a tin roof, an old boys' school locker filled with bottled beer, and an eclectic mix of quirky and dog-inspired decor, this laid-back Orlando gem serves up excellent barbecue. Massive homes, including that of Tiger Woods, have replaced the orange groves that once surrounded the site, and it feels like a drive to get here, but don't be deterred. Menu offerings range from Florida Cracker (pulled pork with Gouda, bacon and fried onions) to the recommended Puppy Love (peanut butter, strawberries, bananas, chocolate shavings, chopped roast peanuts) and excellent Cuban-style black beans. Call in advance for pickup orders.
