  1. Campiello

    Campiello is one of Naples’ most popular Italian restaurants. Not only does it have a lively alfresco bar scene and patio seating, it also serves delicious food. The lunch menu features a lot of salads and sandwiches not offered at dinner, as well as pasta entrées for less than they cost come evening. At dinner, the menu features lots of spit-roasted meat and fish along with pasta staples. People on a budget who are looking to experience Campiello’s fantastic ambience but can’t afford to shell out $42 for a steak, should try one of the single-serving wood-oven pizzas.   2. Caribbean Gardens

    Formerly a 52-acre botanical oasis, these gardens are now a junglelike home to exotic animals like Bengal tigers, zebras, panthers and huge snakes. You can take a narrated cruise to observe monkeys and apes living freely in an island habitat. And even though it’s not the focus of the place, kids love the petting zoo and myriad daily animal presentations. All activities are included in the admission price. The zoo is a nonprofit organization, and admission revenues go toward protecting wildlife around the world.

  3. The Boathouse

    Rated by Naples’ residents as the most romantic spot for sunset cocktails, the Boathouse is an eclectic place right on the water. It has a fabulous deck, a long list of tropical cocktails and an interesting menu that includes elk, buffalo and local seafood. Eat between 4pm and 6pm and you’ll get an entrée, appetizer and dessert for around $15. Singles congregate at the big bar for drinks and sunsets; dress to be seen.

  4. Naples Nature Center

    The environmental nonprofit Conservancy of Southwest Florida runs great nature centers, including this center, off Goodlette-Frank Rd. It has a museum of natural history, a wildlife rehabilitation center, a 3000-gallon marine aquarium, an aviary with bald eagles and trails, naturalist-led hiking tours (free) and boating tours. Canoe and kayak rentals ($13 for two hours) are offered 9:30am to noon Monday to Saturday.

  5. Sweet Liberty

    A quarter-mile east of Tin City (a waterfront shopping mall that surrounds the city docks at the eastern end of 12th Ave S) on the Gordon River, this company offers relaxing three-hour catamaran trips past luxe Naples Bay homes and on to Key Island, where you’ll have about an hour to swim and collect shells. You’ll probably see some dolphins along the way.

  6. Lowdermilk Park

    LowdermilkPark, north of Old Naples, has restrooms, vending machines, picnicking places and volleyball courts showcasing some of the best players around. If you’re a world-class player visiting from, say, Hawaii, you might be able to join them. Otherwise, just watch the buff bods. And again, bring quarters for the meters.

  7. Jane’s Café on 3rd

    Jane’s is popular for its fabulous breezy courtyard dining and reasonably priced sandwiches and wraps stuffed with fresh ingredients – we were addicted to the tuna and avocado wrap. The salad list is long and creative and can be paired with a cup of homemade soup. The breakfast menu features the usual assortment of egg dishes.

  8. Delnor-Wiggins Pass State Recreation Area

    Delnor-Wiggins Pass State Recreation Area, north of Old Naples, boasts gorgeous, pristine white sands, food concessions, showers and every item you might need for a day in the sun for hire (chairs, umbrellas, snorkeling, kayaks, etc). There’s great snorkeling at a reef just offshore.

  9. Old Naples Pub

    This small US-style neighborhood pub has a wonderful front courtyard tucked behind the upscale shops. Its nachos, salads, grouper and chips, ribs, tuna Caesar salads and catch-of-the-day specials are great value. There is live entertainment most nights in high season, and on weekends in the summer.

  10. Sonja Benson

    Men can wait on the yellow ‘husband’ bench out front while their wives peruse this delightful handbag boutique. The bold multicolored patterned bags are reminiscent of Pucci, but are made by Sonja Benson, a Naples-based designer. Each is a unique piece of art; prices are reasonable.

    If you need espresso to start your morning, head to Bad Ass. Serving the best lattes and frozen coffee drinks in Naples, Bad Ass also has free wi-fi should you have a laptop with you. Chill out by the faux volcano at this Hawaii import specializing in beans from the Big Island.

  13. Dock at Crayton Cove

    Serving fried seafood on the open-air city docks, this rustic place also has hefty sandwiches, good daily specials and some Caribbean-style dishes. The bar is quite popular with locals. Watch the boats cruise by and munch on some snacks and a refreshing drink.

  14. Palm Cottage

    East of the pier, the late-19th-century Palm Cottage, home to the Collier County Historical Society, offers tours of one of the last remaining ‘tabby mortar’ homes in southwest Florida. Tabby was a kind of paste made from burning shells.

    Clam Pass County Park, north of Old Naples, has a three-quarter-mile boardwalk through a mangrove forest that leads out to a powdery white-sand beach. Parking costs $4 and there’s a free electric tram from the parking lot.

    Just a couple of blocks east of 5th Ave, Lindburgers boasts over 50 kinds of burgers, including vegetarian ones, as well as sandwiches, salads and soups. Their patties are topped with just about anything you can think of.

    Within the Philharmonic Center for the Arts and worth a visit simply for the stunning entryway glass sculpture and dramatic glass dome, this museum has exciting contemporary works alongside traveling shows.

  19. Naples Trolley Tours

    Has anecdotal and historical narration and makes a 1¾-hour circuit through the city, stopping at many hotels and the chamber of commerce. You can ride all day and get on and off as often as you like.

    McCabes has Irish bands on weekends and good suds nightly. It’s the most popular after-dark spot in town.
