Sights in Naples

  1. Caribbean Gardens

Formerly a 52-acre botanical oasis, these gardens are now a junglelike home to exotic animals like Bengal tigers, zebras, panthers and huge snakes. You can take a narrated cruise to observe monkeys and apes living freely in an island habitat. And even though it’s not the focus of the place, kids love the petting zoo and myriad daily animal presentations. All activities are included in the admission price. The zoo is a nonprofit organization, and admission revenues go toward protecting wildlife around the world.

  2. Naples Nature Center

The environmental nonprofit Conservancy of Southwest Florida runs great nature centers, including this center, off Goodlette-Frank Rd. It has a museum of natural history, a wildlife rehabilitation center, a 3000-gallon marine aquarium, an aviary with bald eagles and trails, naturalist-led hiking tours (free) and boating tours. Canoe and kayak rentals ($13 for two hours) are offered 9:30am to noon Monday to Saturday.

  3. Lowdermilk Park

LowdermilkPark, north of Old Naples, has restrooms, vending machines, picnicking places and volleyball courts showcasing some of the best players around. If you’re a world-class player visiting from, say, Hawaii, you might be able to join them. Otherwise, just watch the buff bods. And again, bring quarters for the meters.
