Lonely Planet review for Mallory Square

On an island this small, you have to work pretty hard to avoid the over-the-top tourist action at Mallory Square at the northwestern end of Duval St. Near where the cruise ships vomit out their daily load, it's hardly the real Key West, but their nightly sunset celebration is a fun ritual to indulge in, however briefly, with jugglers, fire-eaters and street performers of every stripe.

Amazing sunset and speeding police boats

    borntorover does not recommend this,

If you have come this far - you can use the magnificent Seven Mile Bridge as an excuse if you want - then you will inevitably find yourself at the northern end of Duval Street with the crowds waiting for the sunset. And there will be crowds. Given that 99.9% of the visitors when we visited were American, I am not sure why there were two 'British Goods' shops. That aside the sunset view is extraordinary. Truly beautiful. It is one of two reasons not to look inland to the hordes. The other are the police boats. It seems they sit there, obbing in the breathtaking bay just waiting for one of the boys to go too far, too fast. And they do. It is a sunset hoot - one minute it all peace and calm, vast super yachts to the fore and the next there's a multicoloured superboat speeding into view and clearly breaking the speedlimit. On goes the flashing blue and the police boat is off, chasing for all its worth. It looks no contest until you realise that police boat might look like the proverbial tortoise ... Great entertainment.
