    Mango’s Tropical Café

Cuba meets Coyote Ugly Saloon in this tourist hotspot, where a staff of gorgeous and/or ripped bodies (take your pick) dances, gyrates and puts some serious booty on the floor. Of course, you’re here for anthropological reasons: to study the nuances of Latin dance. Not to watch the bartender do that thing Shakira does with her butt.

    The Bar

All in a name, right? Probably the best watering hole in the Gables, The Bar is just what the title says (which is ironic in this neighborhood of extravagant embellishment). If you’re in the ’hood on Friday come here for happy hour (5pm to 8pm), when all the young Gables professionals take their ties off and basically let loose long into the night.

  3. Coasters

On the way to or from Siesta Key, Coasters is popular for its casual waterfront location, salads, sandwiches, wraps and two-for-one drinks. With a modicum of luck, you’ll see dolphins frolicking in a waterway right near your table. This is a great place to catch the sunset and watch pleasure boats cruising by.

    Chesterfield Hotel

Perch on some prime Collins people-watching real estate and get crunk on the hip-hop-and-zebra stripe theme they've got going on here. You'd think this would be a pre-funk kinda place, but the setting's so fly, folks end up stationary, sipping on mad martinis 'til they stumble into their rooms.

  5. D

    Boy Bar

The North Beach boys (and just about everyone else) flock to this neighborhood cruise bar, where everyone plays pool, chills on the back porch and basically avoids indulging in too much South Beach–style madness. Which isn’t to say they don’t engage in a little bad behavior…

    Central Cigars

In addition to an enormous selection of stogies and a full line of humidors and accessories, Central has a cigar bar (no cigarettes allowed) where you can sink into an overstuffed leather chair, sample some smokes, sip port and catch up on all your cigar-related reading.

  7. Stock Exchange

At the marina at the southern end of Beach St, an older crowd flirt with each other via telephones set on the tables at this super-local retro place; just pick up and call if you spot someone you like. Music from the '50s to '80s will have you doing the time warp again.

    Dewey’s Tavern

Dewey’s is a deco dive (really; the exterior is a little gem of the genre) and it’s as unpretentious as the best sordid watering holes get. Come here to get wasted and menace the crowds seeking serenity on quiet Alton Rd (just kidding – behave yourself!).

  9. G

    Green Iguana Bar & Grill

A cool, laid-back bar and restaurant by day (with Floribbean food, fish sandwiches and good burgers), by night the Green Iguana is actually two clubs in one. Head here for high-energy cover bands or DJ-driven dance music; $1 drinks on Wednesday.

  10. H

    Spanky's Sports Bar

Sure, it's a sports bar - hence the name, pool tables and ESPN - but you're bound to see more tattoos and dreadlocks than baseball hats and pleat-front shorts. Its indoor stage and outdoor amphitheater host local and national bands, to boot.

    Lost Weekend

The Weekend is a grimy, sweaty, slovenly dive, filled with pool tables, cheap domestics and – hell yeah – a Golden Tee arcade game. God bless it. Popular with local waiters, kitchen staff and bartenders, so you know it’s a good time.

    Hub

This fun downtown hangout, complete with jukebox and cheap drinks, looks like a hole in the wall, but the bar gets packed on weekends with a Jack Daniels-and-Coke crowd. Be prepared to call a cab after ordering a few too many.

    Ted’s Hideaway

Somewhere in the Florida panhandle is a bumpin’, fabulous gay club, which clearly switched places with Ted’s, a no-nonsense, pool table and sports-showin’ ‘lounge’ smack in the middle of Sofi’s elegant chicness.

    Spicetopia Hookah Ba

Out the back of this tea shop, sit out on a raised platformed deck surrounded by sheer chiffon curtains, taking in one of 15 different hookah flavors including cappuccino, red rose and a super-sweet cantaloupe.

    Spirits of Bacchus

This chic restobar departs from the usual barefoot, tank top, cheeseburger-in-paradise vibe. Instead there’s fine wines, classy cocktails and hip interior decor, plus dancing and music into the wee hours.

    Ferg’s Sports Bar & Grill

A friendly neighborhood place with an outdoor bar, and plenty of TVs to watch the football, Ferg’s really gets hopping before and after big games. It’s one of St Petersburg’s favorite sports bars.

  18. Siesta Key Oyster Bar

Head down to Siesta Key, along Ocean Blvd and Beach Rd, and follow your ears to find your version of a boisterous, raucous time. Pop into the Siesta Key Oyster Bar for a rollicking good time.

  19. O

    Mac's Club Deuce Bar

Cough, cough. Is that your lung on the floor? No matter; quaff a cheap beer and revel in the gloriously seedy vibe in this, the beach's oldest bar, which has been pouring drinks since 1926.

    A Taste for Wine

This upmarket 2nd-floor bar, with a lovely New Orleans-style balcony, is a fun place for wine tastings, wines by the glass and appetizers (unless you want to drink on an empty stomach).

    Felt

Having 10 pool tables is one way to stand out from the crowd in these parts, and it seems to be working. Grab a drink and a cue and enjoy this spot’s come-one-come-all attitude.

    Tobacco Road

With a roadhouse feel and the oldest liquor license in Miami-Dade County, this rockin' joint has been around since 1912 and is often the scene of impromptu jams by well-known rockers.

  24. Intermission

A hip, smoky venue known for its super-strong cocktails, the bar is housed in a lovely old building, and draws a mixed crowd that expands exponentially on Friday and Saturday nights.

    Adobe Gilas

The 2nd-floor balconies at this bar are a fabulous vantage point from which to take in the street scene below (and the bartenders also happen to mix fabulous margaritas).

    Late Night Library

This jam-packed, swelteringly hot college-crowd club is the place to be on Saturday nights, but bargain-priced drinks also fill the place on Thursdays and Sundays.
