Theme Park activities in Florida

  1. A

    Epcot

An acronym for 'Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow,' Epcot was Disney's vision of a high-tech city when it opened in 1982. It's divided into two halves: Future World, with rides and corporate-sponsored interactive exhibits, and World Showcase, providing an interesting toe-dip into the cultures of 11 countries. Epcot is much more soothingly low-key than other parks, and it has some of the best food and shopping. Plus, a few rides are WDW highlights, like Soarin' and Mission: Space. The interactive Turtle Talk with Crush is delightful.

  2. B

    Disney Hollywood Studios

Formerly Disney-MGM Studios, this is the least-charming of Disney's parks. However, it does have two of WDW's most exciting rides: the unpredictable elevator in the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror and the Aerosmith-themed Rock 'n' Roller Coaster. Wannabe singers can audition for the American Idol Experience, kids can join the Jedi Training Academy, and various programs present Walt Disney himself and how Disney's movies are made.

  3. C

    Magic Kingdom

When people think of WDW, they picture the Magic Kingdom, from the iconic Cinderella's Castle to Space Mountain, the Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Caribbean(now including Johnny Depp's Jack Sparrow). This is where the fireworks and nighttime light parade illuminate Main Street, USA. For Disney mythology, it doesn't get better, and rides and shows aim squarely at young kids and their parents and grandparents.

  4. D

    Animal Kingdom

This sometimes surreal blend of African safari, zoo, rides, costumed characters, shows and dinosaurs establishes its own distinct tone. It's best at animal encounters and shows, with the 110-acre Kilimanjaro Safaris as its centerpiece. The iconic Tree of Life houses the fun It's Tough to Be a Bug! show, and Expedition Everest and Kali River Rapids are the top thrill rides.
