Vanessie of Santa Fe
You don't really come to Vanessie for the food, though there's nothing wrong with it. No, the attraction here is the piano bar, featuring blow-dried lounge singers who bring Neil Diamond and Barry Manilow classics to life in their own special way.

Galapagos Art Space
Galapagos goes modern cabaret, and more. Freshly exported from its former digs in Williamsburg, the Dumbo space is all-green and eco-hugging – with indoor ponds for added danger – and home to the ‘20s forever’ campy experimentation that’s brought in ukelele bands, Monday-night burlesque, blood-curdling Vicious Vaudeville, a Russian vampire/surf-rock band and some art.

Lannie's Clocktower Cabaret
Bawdy, naughty and strangely romantic, Lannie's Clocktower Cabert is a wild child standout among LoDo's rather straight-laced (or at least straight) night spots. A table right up near the front will get you in the sparkling heart of the action, and if you parse the schedule closely, you might get a glance at the sexiest drag queens in Denver.

Don't Tell Mama
Piano bar and cabaret venue extraordinaire, Don't Tell Mama is an unpretentious little spot that's been around for more than 25 years and has the talent to prove it. Its regular roster of performers aren't big names, but true lovers of cabaret who give each show their all and don't mind a little singing help from the audience sometimes.
If you want your cabaret a bit more sinister and sexy, head to the Box (www.theboxnyc.com) on the Lower East Side. It's risqué and ribald, but its (very) late-night shows might just tickle your fancy.

Le Chat Noir
At this smartly accoutered bar and cabaret the beverage of choice is the martini and the entertainment ranges from Edith Piaf reincarnated to comic stage productions. CBD office workers prevail during ‘happy hour’ (4pm to 8pm), and a mature audience turns out for the evening shows.

Feinstein’s at the Regency
You’ll be puttin’ on the ritz at this old-school cabaret spot from crooner Michael Feinstein. The storied stage has hosted everyone from Rosemary Clooney to Vikki Carr to Tony Danza. (Yes, Tony Danza.) It’s a small room, so buy tickets in advance for big-name Broadway acts.

Oak Room
Glam up, order a martini and get the Dorothy Parker vibe at this famous piano bar. Famed for launching the careers of Harry Connick Jr, Diana Krall and Michael Feinstein, its Sunday brunch often sees jazz veteran Barbara Carroll grace the piano.

Darcelle XV
Portland's Vegas-style cabaret show, featuring glitzy drag queens in big wigs, fake jewelry and over-stuffed bras. Musical performances are spiced with corny comedy while hapless audience members are picked out and teased. Male strippers perform at midnight on Friday and Saturday.

La Te Da
While the outside bar is where locals gather for mellow chats over beer, you can catch high-quality drag acts – big names come here from around the country – upstairs at the fabulous Crystal Room on weekends. More low-key cabaret acts grace the downstairs lounge.
