  9. Stagecoach Bar

Jackson has no better place to shake your booty. 'Mon-day' means reggae, Thursday is disco night and every Sunday the house band croons country-and-western favorites until 10pm. Worth the short drive to Wilson (just past the Teton Village turnoff).

  14. Skipper's Smokehouse

Did this place blow in from the Keys on a hurricane? No, for over 30 years Skipper's has been an unpretentious, beloved Old Florida institution and Tampa's best open-air venue for blues, funk, folk, reggae and gator-swamp rockabilly. Hell, it's so damn friendly you can bring the kids. The attached seafood restaurant is nothing special, but Skipper's certainly is. Take I-275 N to exit 52/Fletcher Ave.

  15. Satellite Coffee

Don't be put off by the hip, space-age appearance. The staff is welcoming and seats are filled with all manner of laptop-viewing, java-swilling locals. There are eight locations scattered across town; also try the one in Nob Hill (3513 Central Ave NE).

  16. H

    Russia House

Russophiles flock to this faded, elegant Dupont gem, with brassy chandeliers, candlelit chambers and stupefying vodka selection. A great spot for conversation and caviar – or heartier classics like pelmeni (dumplings), braised stuffed rabbit and shashlik (shish kabob).
