United Center information
The United Center arena is home to the Bulls (pro basketball team) and the Blackhawks (pro hockey team), and is a venue for big-name concerts and special events. The statue of an airborne Michael Jordan in front of the east entrance (by gate 4) pays a lively tribute to the hoops player whose talents financed the edifice. It's a popular photo op.
Expect lots of construction as the venue adds more space and a big retail store to the grounds. The area is OK by day, but gets a bit edgy and deserted at night – unless there’s a game, in which case cops are everywhere to ensure public safety.
