Lonely Planet review for Tecalitlan
Weighing in at more than a pound and costing less than $6, the carne asada (roast meat) burrito with cheese is not just one of the city’s best food values, it’s one of the city’s best foods. Add the optional avocado and you’ll have a full day’s worth of food groups wrapped in a huge flour tortilla. The horchata (a rice-based beverage made with water, sugar, cinnamon, vanilla and lime) is creamy and refreshing.

Offers 1 thing no other Mexican in Chicago can offer....
cyndulab recommends this,
There is one reason to go to Tecalitlan - it's the margaritas. You can get much better Mexican food at the myriad of Mexican places in Chicago, yet this is the one restaurant I go to most. There is a dedicated margarita maker, who whips up pitchers by mixing many things, including some sort of powder from a white bucket which he keeps on the floor behind the bar. The secret recipe is magical, the price is fair, and they offer discounted pitchers during weekdays. The food is always good; not great. Steer clear of the shredded chicken unless you like a very gamey bird - chicken breast items are excellent however. Recommended: queso fundito, guacamole, enchiladas verdes, the Chiles rellenos which are outstanding, fajitas, burritos, tacos, and of course, margaritas! Fillipe is the best waiter, and ask not to be seated at the oddly brightly lit rear corner area, as it involves a lighting scheme not unsimilar to a department store makeup counter - the front area is best. They also have a few tables out on the sidewalk in the summer. This is a very low key dining experience, but is always fun and for visitors, very Chicago. For real.
