Lonely Planet review for Cru Cafe & Wine Bar

With no less than 300 bottles at this sleek wine bar, food gets less attention than the oenophiliac delights, though creative offerings like the ‘surf and turf club’ with lobster and beef tenderloin, and shared small plates are well-executed.

Honesty is not on the menu at Cru

    hleben does not recommend this,

Cru is no less superficial and closet-trashy as the neighborhood where it's situated. It's not only extremely overpriced, but is filled with the type of women who can hardly walk because of their shoe selection, and who have never owned a winter hat along with men who appear to have found a way to hook up their cologne bottle to their shower nozzle and spend their time parading around telling people how many digits are in their salaries.

When my friend and I went to Cru, we drank wine by the glass. My friend asked for a wine recommendation. The glass of wine recommended by the server was really spectacular. When the bill came we realized that it tasted good for a reason: it was 40 dollars a glass! The waitress failed to mention that when we were ordering!

I would steer clear of this place, and of the Gold Coast in general. There are way cooler neighborhoods and wine bars in Chicago. Check out Webster Wine Bar instead! Better prices, better company, and the servers actually have a conscience!
