Lonely Planet review

Original gonzo writer Jack London spent his last years in the Valley of the Moon. His Beauty Ranch is now Jack London State Historic Park. The ruins of his dream home, Wolf House, are here, as well as the House of Happy Walls, built after his death by his widow Charmian. It's now the Jack London Museum.

The park is huge, with 14.5km (9mi) of hiking trails, well-placed picnic tables, beautiful views and delicious peace and quiet.
