Lonely Planet review

Named for the Roman goddess of abundance, Copia: The American Center for Wine, Food & the Arts is a $50 million cultural centre, bringing together all things Wine Country in one smart package. Interactive exhibits include a wine-tasting station that demystifies the experience, preparing you to visit wineries unafraid.

Fascinating installations tackle the question, 'What is American food?' Every ticket includes free tastings and a cooking demonstration. Outside, extensive gardens include one for children (with roosters and a beanstalk teepee) and a 'wine garden' planted with things people use to describe wine, from lemon to tobacco. The cafe serves lovely salads and sandwiches and Julia's Kitchen provides white-tablecloth service. Outdoor concerts, forums, barbecues and films are also held here.
