Blog: Family Friendly Hotel, Resort, Suite Reviews: Travel Savvy Mom » blog - 23 September 2009

On a recent trip to San Diego, my extended family and I visited SeaWorld San Diego as their guests. We spent over nine hours tromping around the park, stopping only when the sun went down and we became chilled in our whale-water soaked clothing.

A blink and the week was gone. 6 nights camped under the stars on the coast of Marin County in Northern California. I spent my days cooking for 55 people in our make-shift kitchen. Two picnic tables and the propane burners along with the BBQ pit would be the tools of the trade. Three heavy plastic tubs carried pots and pans, A tackle box had been reapropriated as a 'Utensil Kit', full of

Blog: Desperately Seeking Root Beer - 14 September 2009

With all of the news coverage of the 40th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing in the past few months, I was surprised to see almost no mention of the San Francisco Bay Area's connection to this historic event mentioned in the local papers. Only a few people I talked to knew of the USS Hornet Museum in Alameda, and even fewer knew that the Hornet was the ship that recovered the astronauts from the Apollo 11 & 12 missions after splashdown.

    Blog: Atlas Parasite - 9 September 2009

If you know me at all you know I loves me a good glass of wine. I’ll even take a mediocre glass of wine or a bad glass of wine. I mean, there’s only been one glass of wine I have refused so far, and that’s because it kind of tasted like blood…anyway… At Wine [...]

Blog: An American in London - 1 September 2009

I’m back in London after spending five days in La Jolla, California, which included quick trips to LA and the ‘burbs of Orange County. I couldn’t get enough of the sunshine and wide, sandy beaches of SoCal, but sadly, my year-old Canon Elph drowned in seawater during a kayak outing off the coast of [...]

    Blog: Atlas Parasite - 29 August 2009

Submitted by: Jessica Goebel Denver, Colorado Though San Diego is more often noted for its world-class zoo and scenic beaches, the city also plays host to one of pop culture’s weirdest, wildest events: Comic-Con. What started in the 70s with a modest gathering of comic book fans has ballooned into a colossal affair attracting proud geeks from [...]Rating: 0.0/10 (0 votes cast)

Jon and I are in SoCal right now, and although I’m an East Coast girl, I must confess I’m enjoying the sea and sun around these parts.  And I’ve definitely been loving all the great Cal-Mex food. Our fave Mexican fix so far has been at the divey Tacos Por Favor, which is just a dozen [...]

Ay ay ay ay. San Mateo is one of the suburbs near San Francisco. It’s 20-30 minutes away from downtown San Francisco and about 10 minutes away from SFO airport. I spent a good three hours in San Mateo. It was a small place but it was very welcoming to me. No intimidating skyscrapers in sight that would usually be [...]

    Blog: Trans-Americas Journey - 18 July 2009

Friday morning we visited Alta Colina’s beautiful vineyards where we were treated to the first signs of veraison, the change in color of the grapes berries. The Mourvedre blocks were well on their way and the Syrah was just beginning. It was too beautiful to keep to ourselves.     [geo_mashup_map] Related posts:Paso Winos Go To: Alta Colina Paso Winos Go To: Paso Wine Center & Wine for Water Paso Winos Go To: August Ridge Vineyards

  24. Paso Winos Go To: Clautiere Vineyard

    Blog: Trans-Americas Journey - 16 July 2009

It was a Twitter message that did it. 140 little characters about a crazy big sale on delicious 2005 Viognier and Roussanne that worked out to less than $100 a case. Huh? We read that post at 3:45 and still managed to get to the Clautiere Vineyard tasting room (a 30 minute drive away) before it closed at 5. When we walked in we told the woman behind the bar that we were there because we’d just read a Tweet about the blow-out sale on cases of white. Her reaction “No way!” Way.

Blog: Desperately Seeking Root Beer - 14 July 2009

No matter how much ground I try to cover, there always seems to be more to explore in San Francisco's Presidio. People often think of Golden Gate Park as San Francisco's largest park, and it is definitely large, just slightly besting New York's Central Park in terms of overall area (and number of bison).
