So many posts request the impossible - that a bunch of people who have never met you magically intuit how much you have to spend and what will make you happy on vacation, generally planning out your route for three months and helping you get discount flight reservations.
So, what can you do to get great travel advice?
1. Do your homework
The web is filled with basic information like how far it is from Las Vegas to the Grand Canyon, or how to…
I am looking for a couple of restaurant options for a group dinner for around 20-25 adults, with a budget of say $40-50USD per person (not including drinks), in NYC and Washington DC. Somewhere nice, no particular type of cuisine- an "international" or "American" fare would be suitable etc.
I realise this is akin to saying "I'm looking for a hotel with beds in it", but I'm hoping someone may well be able to point me in the right direction of where to start looking. It's been an age since I've…
We are an older couple travelling to to USA for the first time. We have very simple Nokia phones (not iPhones), and they are used with prepaid credit, and someone suggested we should just get a SIM card at the airport and put an amount on it to suit our needs. We only want to be able to contact each other if we get separated and to make a very few local calls. No internet required. I've been googling around and I'm confused. Some say you can't buy a SIM card, you can only buy disposable phones…
I am from the East Coast and I am planning to do a solo trip on Highway 1 in California next March 2016 as a mini-sabbatical from a stressful few years of just grad school and work. I want to enjoy the views, stop along some scenic towns, shop, eat in places with a view, hike and take photographs (with an actual camera, not phone) along the way. I hope to meet some locals too. Although I've traveled extensively to Europe and Canada and the East Coast, I've actually never been to California.
I'm going alone for camping near Yosemite National park. Looking for a company to explore the place. I'm an asian, 34 year old male. I will be riding from San Diego on July 3rd for long weekend and will be spending only 2 nights.
Let me know if anyone is interested.
Hey travelers.. I need your help. I'm visiting Maui (for 3 days) and Kauai (for 2 days) this weekend for the first time. I need your advice on:
1: Which island/beaches should I 'surf' on? I'm a beginner surfer and know the basics. I want to raise my skills and get more into it (but obviously be safe). I'm planning to take another lesson in Hawaii.
2: Other activities I'm interested in are scuba diving, parasailing, and paddle-boarding. What beaches would you recommend for these?
3: I have…
Hi all, I have been checking BART and Caltrain web sites from San Francisco to San Jose and back. Is train the best way to do this? I don't seem to notice a direct BART route to San Jose while Caltrain seems to have one.
Do these trains run throughout the day? Is it easy to find the stations? I will have a medium-sized bag to lug around as I am international traveller.
Hey Thorntree community,
My friend & I are planning a 3.5 week road trip to the Pacific Northwest (including potentially 4 - 5 days in Colorado/Wyoming if we can manage it) in August/September 2015. We are coming from Brisbane, Australia.
I really want to at least get a taste of Colorado/Wyoming (esp Yellowstone) but spend the majority of the time in Oregon/California.
My rough itinerary:
5 - 6 days in Colorado/Wyoming:
- arrive Denver, pick up car (one night)
-drive to Yellowstone, possibly…
