Lonely Planet review

This grassy little square of the Village Green Heritage Center in the heart of downtown has some 'heritage' attractions, though most people use it as a place to sit and eat ice cream and fudge, which you can buy at the nearby sweets store.

Though it's a bit of a hotchpotch - all of the buildings were either moved here from their original locations or rebuilt at the Center - this small historical park collects remnants from Palm Springs' past. The best of the historical buildings is Ruddy's General Store, a reproduction of a 1930s shop with period fittings and goods in their original packaging. The 1884 McCallum Adobe is a reconstruction of the home of Palm Springs' first white settler. It has an interesting collection of historical photographs and tools. The Agua Caliente Cultural Museum displays exhibits on the history of the Cahuilla people.
