Old Oakland, along Washington St between 8th and 10th Sts, is lined with historic buildings dating from the 1860s to the 1880s. The buildings have been restored and some restaurants and hotels have opened up here.

Galleries in the area include the funky Expressions Art Gallery, near the corner of 8th St, and the Museum of Children's Art where exhibits are created by children.

The area also hosts a lively farmers market every Friday morning - a great time to visit.
