At this deservedly famous eatery the menu changes fortnightly, but the emphasis is always Mediterranean. The place attracts a well-to-do crowd, but dining on the plant-shrouded, heated front porch is a charming and relaxed experience.

    Quiet Perfection

    Shhh, what's that sound? Oh, it's the sound of your dining companions talking - you can actually hear them! Bay Wolf is one of the few places that really understands that people like to have conversations over dinner without yelling. Sure cement floors may look hip, and the resulting din may make a restaurant seem lively and vibrant, but the soft carpets and the elegantly fabric-covered walls at Bay Wolf are a welcome relief when you're looking for some peace and quiet in comfortable surroundings, and it still manages to feel current.

    The food at Bay Wolf has always been top-notch - perhaps not super high on the wow-factor (although try to beat that insanely rich duck liver flan), but they're part of the less-is-more school of fine cuisine, along the lines of Chez Panisse where it's all about incredible and fresh ingredients prepared simply and impeccably. In a sense, the food is kind of quiet too, you might say - quiet but amazing. If you're looking to impress a foodie in Oakland, Bay Wolf is a great choice.
