Entrance roads to the north side of the preserve are along I-15 between Barstow and the Nevada state line, especially near Baker, an hour’s drive east of Barstow and 90 minutes southwest of Las Vegas. Entrances to the south side of the preserve off I-40 are closer to the dunes and caverns. On the return trip, take Route 66.
