Tour description provided by Intrepid

Journey into the remote wilds of the western USA on this exceptional grassroots adventure that takes in California and Nevada's biggest attractions. Get a taste of fast-paced Los Angeles, spend a night camped out in Joshua Tree National Park and perhaps try your luck in louder-than-life Las Vegas. Then trade the all-night revelries of the world's most outlandish city for the solitude of Death Valley, set out along the forested trails of Yosemite National Park and wind up among the sea-side charms of San Francisco. Spending time in places both brimming with natural beauty and bursting with city spectacles, this is the perfect introduction to the USA's great west.

Day 1 Los Angeles
Arrive in Los Angeles, the 'City of Angels'. Home to Venice Beach, Disneyland, Hollywood and Beverly Hills, this is a city with a number of haunts worth getting to know. If time permits, consider arriving a few days before the start of the trip to see what makes this place tick.
Day 2 San Diego
Head to the sunny beachside city of San Diego. In the spare time on offer, why not get exploring the city's quaint and quirky Old Town or hire a board and hit the waves.
Day 3 Joshua Tree National Park
Leave the coast behind and make for the Mojave Desert. Search for the famous Joshua Tree that lends this renowned national park its name, marvel at the peculiar geology of this alien landscape and be amazed by the giant boulder piles littering the horizon.
Days 4-5 Grand Canyon National Park
Travel on to one of the country's premier show stoppers - the mighty Grand Canyon. Peer down to the valley floor from exceptional vantage points while condors circle overhead, or perhaps join them on an optional helicopter flight.
Days 6-7 Las Vegas
Arrive in legendary Las Vegas, playground of the rich and reckless. Even for those who prefer not to try their luck on the card tables, this city still boasts plenty of attractions. Hit the bars for a night of no-holds-barred revelry, check out the weird and whacky cabaret shows being performed or hop aboard a gondola for a bewilderingly inauthentic Italian shopping experience.
Day 8 Death Valley
Drive on across the Eastern Sierra to the scolding desert heat of Death Valley. If weather conditions are favourable, perhaps set out on a short walk onto the salt flats and learn about how life plays in a seriously inhospitable eco-system.
Days 9-10 Yosemite National Park
Cross over the Tioga Pass into the Sierra Nevada Mountains. The supreme natural beauty of Yosemite National Park is well-known, and open to exploration by any number of options. Set out along the hiking trails, push off by pedal bike or opt for a relaxing float down the Merced River.
Days 11-12 San Francisco
Be captivated by the incredible Bay Area and its undisputed jewel, San Francisco. This city's charms are many, so staying on a few extra days post-trip is well-recommended. Check out the superb dining scene, jump aboard one of the still-running street-cars or take a cruise out to Alcatraz.
